STEP 1

PREPARATION

Read here about the first steps you need to take to prepare your aquarium for planting.

1. Assemble the cabinet if necessary.

2. Set up your aquarium according to the instructions for use.

3. Fit the JUWEL background to your aquarium. To this end, first measure your aquarium vertically and horizontally (only up to the filter). You will find pre-cut edges on the back of the JUWEL background. Use the enclosed saw to cut the background to size. Follow the installation instructions on the product packaging. Use JUWEL Conexo high-strength adhesive to achieve the best possible hold in your aquarium. Apply spots of the adhesive to the background and then carefully place it in position. Repeat the installation process to achieve the optimum installation of the JUWEL filter cover in your aquarium. Please note that the JUWEL background and the JUWEL filter cover will take between 24 and 72 hours to dry.

4. Spread the substrate around the bottom of your aquarium to cover it, e.g. using a brush. Black Soil was used in our example.

Step 2

Planting

Find out here what you need to take into account when adding plants to your aquarium, and how to set up your aquarium based on the set-up example.

5. Decorate your aquarium. Place stones, roots or other decorative items in your aquarium. Then you can start planting your aquarium. Make sure that you expose the roots when you unpack the plants. Cut the roots a little from below to enable them to develop and grow faster. Carefully put the plants in place, e.g. with the help of plant tweezers. The presented planting plan was used in our example.

6. Cover the newly placed elements with paper towels to protect the layout from being washed out. Fill the aquarium slowly with water up to the level indicator. Remove the paper towels once the aquarium has been filled. Tip: Fill the aquarium through the filter to ensure optimum filling. This is the gentlest way of filling the aquarium.
Step 3

Technology

Read here how to correctly put your aquarium’s technical components into operation.

7. If necessary, remove the protective film from the filter media and rinse them carefully under running water. Fill the filter baskets with the filter media as instructed. First insert the lower and then the upper filter basket, with the filter media inserted in the correct order, into the filter housing. Insert the circulating pump and the heater into the openings provided in the filter. Finally, place the filter cover on the filter and connect the electrical equipment to the power supply.
8. Install the light unit and connect it to the power supply. Place the cover hatches on the lamp to prevent condensation from escaping.
9. The run-in period of the filter may last 6 - 8 weeks. You may increase the number of fish in steps during this time.
